The lute and the ’ud are descendents of a common ancestor: the Middle Eastern ’ud which the Moors brought to southern Europe during the medieval period. Adel Salameh and Jacob Heringman, playing ’ud (oud) and renaissance lute, here play a piece from the 13th century.
