The Mozart Fountain, also known as the Magic Flute Fountain, is a fountain on Mozartplatz in Vienna’s 4th district of Wieden. The fountain was built in 1905 during the tenure of Mayor Karl Lueger. The design, which won an award in 1900, comes from the architect Otto Schönthal and the sculptor was Carl Wollek. The fountain is intended to commemorate the world premiere of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s opera The Magic Flute, which took place in the Freihausheater on Wieden in 1791.
