Ronaldo opted out of the clash, owing to the injury he suffered in Sunday’s game against Levante, when a gash above the left eye, coming as a result of a wayward elbow by Levante defender David Navarro, left Ronaldo bleeding profusely. The injury did not seem all too serious at the time, as after a quick patch-up.
