Chicago preps for expanded ICE operations ahead of Mexican Independence Day celebrations

Chicago is now being targeted by immigration officials, and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker (D) says preparations in the city are being made as different tips have been provided to the public while they plan for several events to take place in upcoming days. Several Mexican Independence Day celebrations are being canceled or postponed due to anxiety about increased immigration operations in the city. El Grito Chicago, a Mexican Independence Day festival, has been postponed over safety concerns. The decision follows the postponement of another major Mexican Independence Day celebration in the Chicago area. On Wednesday, organizers delayed the largest parade and festival in north suburban Waukegan until November. That event was initially set for Sept. 14.
