Maria Shandurkova, Bulgaria She was born in the city of Gabrovo, Bulgaria. She graduated from the Aprelevka gymnasium in her hometown, the Pedagogical Institute in Veliko Tarnovo and the Sofia University with a degree in Bulgarian philology.
