Ladywell Game (1957)

Lancing College, West Sussex. L/S of the Lancing College grounds and buildings. M/S of the students wearing shorts as they run towards the camera. One of the boys has ball in his hands. L/S of the boys arriving at the field surrounded with crowd - boys in grey school uniforms. It is obvious that some kind of a game is about to start. Game is called Ladywell Game and it is invention of the head boy David Smith. It is rather interesting mixture of football, rugby, water polo and “other, more unorthodox strategies“, which makes it chaotic and difficult to watch - unless one knows the rules. There is a creek in the field and boys inspect its banks “to check if there is enough mud,“ claims the voiceover. M/S of a boy making up the goal with posts. Several shot of the audience.
