Teen From Afghanistan Becomes High School Baseball Star

Sadaqat Safti is an unlikely high school baseball star. The teen only recently moved to Iowa from Afghanistan, and coach Alex Gauer told KCCI, “He showed up the first day in sandals, no glove, no hat, no cleats, nothing.” Yet, he had a drive to compete. And once Sadaqat suited up, Gauer noticed something. “He’s thrown something before. Probably not a baseball, but he’s definitely thrown something.” Sadaqat had played cricket – a cousin to baseball – which is popular in Afghanistan.
