“There sweetest flowers of mingled hue“ from the masque Comus (HWV 44) George Frideric Handel (1685-1759) Patrizia Kwella, soprano The Academy of Ancient Music under Christopher Hogwood Based on a libretto previously made by John Dalton for composer Thomas Arne’s Comus, the masque was composed in 1745 for performance with the play Comus by John Milton during Handel’s summer recuperation at the country seat of the Earl of Gainsborough.
