Since 2007, the Venezuelan Free Software, Canaima GNU/Linux, has arrived to revolutionize the networks. We are talking about a project promoted by the State that is designed to solve the needs and realities of the Venezuelan public as an alternative to the traditional dependent model. Canaima contains various methods and various tools that seek to promote independence and technological sovereignty. As Free Software it implies a new ethics of consumption, production and economic relations around free technologies. Since its creation it has been reinventing itself, in 2009 its code name changes to Merú and version 2.0 is presented, one that evolved until it reached ; in 2010 Aponwao arrives and its version evolves to 2.1; in 2011, Canaima reaches its version 3.0 with the name Roraima; In 2012, Canaima took another step and reached its version 3.1, and its code name is Auyantepuy; in 2013 it became known as Kerepakupai and reached its version 4.0; With the name Kukenan, Canaima presents its version 4.1 for the year 2014. In 2015, Canaima reached its version 5.0, this time its code name is Chimantá; in 2018 it presents version 6.0 with the code name Kavac; in 2022 the last stable and improved version of Canaima, Imawarí, arrived. With important significant changes, this open socio-technological-productive project reaches its maintenance update 7.1 -seven months after the publication of version 7.0 Imawarí- with outstanding news. “This new version of Canaima will have a new desktop environment called LXDE, aimed at low-income teams, precisely to recover the technological park from the public administration.
