Both pioneers of South Africa’s deep house and neo-soul scenes in their own right, producer, DJ, and label boss Allan Nicoll aka Kid Fonques relationship with Johannesburg storyteller Sio continues to go from strength to strength - signposted by numerous Stay True Sounds collaborations including Heartbeat, In Love and Soulfully Broken. The multi-faceted artist and vocalist Sio also released numerous singles as a solo artist approaching her fifth full LP, Sarang / 사랑, which landed on STY TRU BTS in May 2024. Rekindled sees the good friends come together again for an alluring dose of Afro House on Defected, with the track holding a level of expertise only possible from two champions of the genre; Sio’s masterful lyricism weaves around Kid Fonque’s shuffling Afro rhythms to create an expressive and hypnotic work of art for the Together series.
