1925 HITS ARCHIVE: See See Rider Blues - Ma Rainey
Revived successfully by various artists through the decades, this version of the blues-folk standard by Gertrude “Ma” Rainey is credited as the first recording of “See See Rider” (aka “C. C. Rider”), though it is generally believed to have been patterned upon earlier traditional blues tunes.
Louis Armstrong (cornet), Charlie Green (trombone), Buster Bailey (clarinet), Fletcher Henderson (piano), Charlie Dixon (banjo).
CD audio, the 78rpm single was issued on Paramount 12252 (some labels shown as “See See Blues”) - See See Rider Blues (Ma Rainey-Lena Arant) by Ma Rainey with Her Georgia Jazz Band, recorded in NYC c. October 16, 1924
