Chris Rea - If I Ever Get Over You (Blue Guitars, Blues Ballads)
If I Ever Get Over You, “Blue Guitars“ Album Number Seven (Blues Ballads)
Blue Guitars is a Blues album released by Chris Rea on October 14, 2005, consisting of eleven CD’s, one DVD and a full-colour book, including paintings by the artist, liner notes, and song lyrics.
The album is an ambitious project with the 137 songs recorded over the course of 1½ years with a work schedule - according to Chris Rea himself - of twelve hours a day, seven days a week.
Initially, the project was inspired by Bill Wyman’s “Blues Odyssey“ and can be called an “odyssey“ in its own right, for depicting a journey through the various epochs of Blues Music, starting at its African origins and finishing with modern-time Blues from the 60s and 70s. Subsequently the eleven CD’s are titled the following: “Beginnings“, “Country Blues“, “Louisiana & New Orleans“, “Electric Memphis Blues“, “Texas Blues“, “Chicago Blues“, “Blues Ballads“, “Gospel Soul Blues & Motown“, “Celtic & Irish Blues“, “Latin Blues“ and “60s & 70s“.
Album Number Seven - Blues Ballads
With the incorporation of the piano and other new elements, such as swing and jazz, according to Chris Rea a somehow “sleepy morphine-induced style“ came to be, which is a pretty accurate description of those Blues Ballads.
The original, primitive influences are no longer recognizable, replaced by a calmer, smoother, more polished, yet nonetheless still recognizable, style of Blues.
All that constituted the Blues in the past is still there.
Tracκ list:
Last Call (Blues Ballads)
Maybe That’s All I Need To Know
Deep Winter Blues
If I Ever Get Over You
I Love The Rain
My Soul Crying Out For You
If That’s What You Want
There’s No One Looking
What Became Of You
My Deep Blue Ways
Lyrics:
When tomorrow comes
The first day for me
That I will rise
Not so young
But free
Gonna paint the town
The brightest red
A drink for every time you said
That we were one
Always to be
I leave at home the ring you gave to me
And I will smile
As the sun comes shining through
If I ever get over you
I’m gonna laugh
No more the silent one
Dance upon tables
Never home ’till midnight been and gone
I’m gonna through away
All my clothes so blue
Gonna try everything that’s new
And when tomorrow comes
The first day for me
That I will rise not young but free
I will smile
As the sun comes shining through
If I ever get over you
Somebody said this new life
That I have come to know
I should have tried it
Oh so many years ago
The glimpse of freedom
Sings such a happy song
It’s such a shame that it’s only there
Only there for one
And I will smile
As the sun comes shining through
If I ever if I ever
Get over you...............
