East coast Christmas Day storms leave 100,000 without power

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services Deputy Commissioner Kevin Walsh has revealed 100,000 people are still without power in Queensland as a result of fallen trees. “The amount of trees that came down was significant and obviously they bring down the overhead lines,” Mr Walsh told Sky News. “We know all the lines people are out on the ground today. “But they [the trees] did bring down over 500 lines, we’ve currently got over 100,000 people without power, so that will take some time to get back in order.” Wild storms batted much of the east coast on Christmas Day, with one woman dying after being struck by a falling tree.
