Down In The Quarry - Something Stirred! (1930)

Bowes, Darlington - the north eastern limestone quarries. C/U of two men preparing explosives. A hole is drilled and explosive powder is poured into the hole. A man stands on top of a small hill shouting and waving a flag. Group of men run towards the camera and into what is presumably a shelter from the blast. M/S of man lighting the end of a fuse and running off. Camera follows the burning fuse. L/S of various explosions throwing rocks from the quarry walls. M/S of a man working on the edge of a cliff - it looks very precarious. He is held onto the cliff by a chain. The man uses a metal pole to loosen rocks from the cliff. He then climbs to the top of the cliff with the aid of his rope. The rock is for railway ballast when broken up. M/S of man using a small pneumatic drill to break up the rock. Men use shovels and their hands to load rock onto trolleys which are then pushed along a track. Interior of place where the rock is loaded onto freight trucks. Was an item in Pathe Pictor
