Richard Strauss: Festmusik der Stadt Wien

This one’s for the brass fans – the brass players of the Philharmonia Orchestra, plus reinforcements, fill the Royal Festival Hall with the rich sounds of Strauss’s Festmusik. From lyrical writing for two ‘choirs’ of instruments, to intricate virtuosity, Strauss certainly gives these fantastic musicians a chance to shine. This piece was filmed as part of a streamed concert, conducted by Martyn Brabbins. It also features Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 with Steven Osborne, and Britten’s Death in Venice Suite.
