A Typical Week in an Off Grid Log Cabin, Maple Syrup with My Daughter & Sister, Smoked Venison Jerky

Cabin life is not easy but to me the variety of tasks required to develop and maintain a successful wilderness homestead are very interesting and rewarding. During the last few days of winter, completing the interior of my log cabin is high priority before I turn my attention to the outdoor kitchen build in the coming days. Between construction projects, I pull a couple of venison hams out of the freezer and cut them into thin strips and dry/smoke them on the fire. With days reaching above freezing temperatures, my daughter Emily and sister help tap maple trees and prepare the evaporator for making maple syrup. Now that warmer weather is here, I shave my head and beard. My wife returns from a hiking trip to Europe with Emily and visits the cabin, seeing the kitchen and bookcase wall additions for the first time.
