Concert To Honor The Alexandrov Ensemble

Friday, Febrary 3, 2017 at 8:00 PM Star of the Sea Church, San Francisco, California. Four Bay Area choirs jointly present a concert in honor of the sixty-four members of the Alexandrov Ensemble who perished along with their director, Valery Khalilov, in a plane crash on December 25th, 2016. The choir was heading from Sochi to Russia’s air base in Syria to perform an a capella New Year’s concert for troops when the plane crash occurred. Also killed was humanitarian and charity activist Dr. Elizaveta Glinka. Other victims of the crash included the pilot and crew of the plane, eight Russian military officers, two Russian civil servants and nine media personnel, including six employees of Channel One, Russia’s major TV network. The Alexandrov Ensemble, the official army choir of the Russian armed forces, was founded in 1928 by composer and conductor Alexander Alexandrov.
