Found in the basement of AVROTROS and digitalized by InnArchive, this recording is the introduction to the Oscar Petersons Trio’s album ‘’We Get Requests’ in the Netherlands in 1965. Oscar Peterson (piano); Ray Brown (bass); Ed Thigpen (drums).
Oscar Peterson (1925 – 2007) is considered to be one of the greatest jazz pianists of all times. He was taught to play the piano and the trumpet by his father at the age of five. At the age of seven, he stopped playing the trumpet due to tuberculosis. He became well-known for his technical skills and musical inventiveness on the piano at an early age. During his career, Peterson accrued multiple Grammy Awards. Since 2010, the city of Ottawa has Honoured Oscar Peterson with a statue.
