The Earliest Italian Song: O bella, bella, bella (Frammento piacentino)

This is the only surviving fragment of one of the two ealiest song in Italian, the so-called “frammento piacentino“, discovered in Piacenza by two scholars of the University of Pavia, Daniele Sabaino and Claudio Vela. The other one is the “Carta ravennate“ ( ). The frammento piacentino is from the early 12th cent. The text is simply “Oh, you woman, so beautiful, beautiful, beautiful“. The music is performed by some students of Pavia/Cremona University.
