1966 Vox V251 Guitar Organ Demo

The weirdest guitar (or guitar-shaped organ), I’ve ever played. Not sure I’m doing it full justice here, with quick renditions of Procul Harum’s Whiter Shade Of Pale and the Tetris theme (or Korobeiniki, as the original Russian folk song is called). A piece of space-age wizardry from Dick Denney, the man who brought us far better-known classics like the Vox AC-30. This crazy hybrid the result of putting the circuitry of a Vox Continental Organ into a Vox Phantom Guitar. Funnily enough, it does play perfectly well as a guitar - with a lovely shimmering tremolo. But, each fret is embedded with 6 separate sensor strips, which act as the contact points for the organ pitch on each string. Engineering-wise, it makes sense - you’ve got to retain separation between the contact points.
