Meghan Markle in Rwanda - Drilling a Borehole | World Vision

Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex and a World Vision Global Ambassador, traveled to Rwanda to help drill a borehole in a rural community. Meghan traveled to Rwanda in February 2016 to see first-hand the importance of clean water. Meghan worked with a team of local community members to use a manual rig to dill almost 25 meters deep, until they hit clean water. This amazing rig can be assembled in just 30 minutes and is easy to transport, even to remote locations. Eight boreholes were drilled for 10 villages, providing 8,500 people with access to cleaning drinking water. The new boreholes are completed with a concrete pad and a mechanical hand pump to deliver safe, clean water. Without access to safe water, residents in some parts of the world are forced to walk long distances to collect water that is often dirty and contaminated, causing illness. Children may be forced to drop out of school in order to collect water for their families. World Vision Canada is a leading NGO
