Kylie - Confide In Me - 30 years celebration in best LIVE moments
Today is the 30th birthday of Confide In Me.
It is not only one of the most iconic Kylie’s singles, but also the track that defines the pop music of the 90’s - dark, experimental trip-hop with influence of other musical directions.
Deeply flirtatious and as knowingly dramatic as a James Bond theme song, “Confide in Me“ continued Minogue on her path away from simplistic pop atop a swath of strings and Middle Eastern influences.
This song was the result of Kylie trying to get rid from the previous reputation of her PWL era, when she was regarded as the voiceless one hit wondered girl. Not as a serious singer. And Kylie herself felt that she desperately need to find a new, fresh sound..
Album version is almost 6 minutes long and starts with the beautiful instrumental intro - piano, violin solo, an orchestral arrangement - not the usual set of instruments which you expect after a long row of bubblegum and dance-pop Kylie’s singles.
The songs most famous hook consists of the reworked sample from the song “It’s A Fine Day“:
1. Jane, 1983 -
2. Opus III, 1993 -
Drums section contains sample from this track:
Rich musical content is supported by daring lyric, in which Kylie tries to convince her lover to confide and share all his concerns with her.
These attempts are very poethical and manipulative (I can keep a secret and throw away the key..), what helps Kylie to evolve as an artist.
This 90’s indie pop classic happened largely thanks to the Official Music video - innovative, creative, bold, bright and sexy - all that you could dream of from the 1994’s music video.
Last but not least.
Vocal.
In 1993 Kylie Minogue was contacted by the members of Brothers in Rhythm (producer duo) to record the track, so she went to their homebase to record the track IN ONE TAKE.
Anderson was impressed with the demo that he decided to use it as the final recording.
It was not an occasion - later, during the countless live performances of Confide In Me - Kylie proved that she has the Voice. Rich, powerful and most often hidden behind the pop songs which do not let her voce to shine.
