What’s left of Hamas and what are they still capable of? | DW News
After eight and a half months of war in Gaza, Israel still says it plans to destroy Hamas. But in an interview the spokesman of the Israeli army Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari told Israel’s Channel 13 broadcaster, ’’To say that we are going to make Hamas disappear is to throw sand in people’s eyes. If we don’t provide an alternative, in the end, we will be left with Hamas,“ He added, “Hamas is an ideology, we cannot eliminate an ideology.“ Hamas is classified as a terrorist group by many Western countries. In addition to its military wing, it is also a political force that has governed Gaza since 2007. We spoke to experts Daniel Gerlach, Gil Murciano, and Andreas Krieg about the Israeli military’s demand for a political strategy for Gaza, and the outlook for peace and stability in the region.
